ABOUT SANDY BASS

Sandy Bass is an artist and writer whose life's goal is to make God's presence known in this world through her art and her writing.

She is a graduate of The Museum Art School in Portland, Oregon (now PNCA).  She has worked as a professional artist for the past 45 plus year, 29 of those years were spent as the staff artist of a large church in the greater Portland area.  While on staff she had opportunity to work in a variety of areas, including writing and illustrating childrens curriculum as well as children's books.  Her book "Best Friend Tree" was nominated for the Gold Medallion Award.

Sandy attended George Fox Seminary and completed the Spiritual Formation Program.  In addition, she has done many public art projects including a large mural for the child development center at Veteran's Hospital in Portland.

She frequently has one person exhibits around the greater Northwest and has led retreats and done much public speaking on the importance of art and the creative process.

In 2007 Sandy Gunderson took back her natural dad's name, which was Bass.

"Taking back my natural dad's name was a step of obedience and in taking that step there came a deep peace to my soul.  These parents that God gave me are a part of who I am...I see both their weaknesses and their strengths at work in me...God is always interested in wholeness and I felt whole and reconciled to both of my parents for the first time...It brought me into balance...I know who I am...I had come home..."

TESTIMONIALS

"Sandy is an extraordinary artist, that is able to produce very powerful and well executed images using a variety of mediums.  I have had the privilege of being able to view her art at various shows.  At every show I was impressed by the strong public response to her work, which was evidenced both by the many comments made and the strong sales that followed." - Jerralynn N.

"I love the luminous colors in your Caran d' Ache  painting/drawings.  I don't know anyone else who can combine depth and whimsy so well." - Lynn K.

"Right now I am looking at my beautiful carved wood relief piece on my office wall.  The intricate work, the whimsy in the piece, the lovely colors and the evident spirituality behind the piece are so strong and so moving.  The piece thrills me every time I look at it, and reactions from visitors to my office are equally positive.  Every piece of artwork in your show was a gem - both in content and in execution.  And, as you know, almost all of them sold.  Yours was one of the most successful shows I have organized in ten years I have been director of the MJCC Gallery.  Visitors to the gallery commented about the unique qualities  of your work. It is unlike almost anything we have every displayed."  - Emily G.

"I finally got to the art display today!! I frankly cannot find the words to describe my experience but am grateful that I was able to finally experience such meaningful, beautiful and inspirational expressions!" - Mike V.
